Is your sport whether competitive or recreational, a reflection of your true meaning to life? Have you been described as a hedonistic thrill seeker or someone who is constantly motivated to pushing yourself out of your comfort zone and crave the adrenaline rush?

Participants from all sorts of sports often describe their experiences as breath-taking, even to its literal sense. While there is absolutely no reason you should stop pursuing your sporting or exercise endeavours, it is indeed imperative to protect your heart health. Check if your body can sustain what your mind intends.

Cardiac deaths are one of the more leading causes of deaths in Singapore and Sudden cardiac arrest falls under that category and accounts for approximately a third of deaths due to cardiac causes. Ironic as it is for sporty individuals to worry about heart health, matters of the heart should not be left to chance. Common causes of Sudden Cardiac Arrests amongst younger adults are:

  • Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (An inherited condition with thickened heart muscles)
  • Anomaly of coronary arteries, which causes blood supply to be compromised when the heart beats rapidly especially during extreme physical exertion.
  • Undetected heart infections such as myocarditis, coronary artery disease, rupture of aorta and left ventricular hypertrophy.

At SCC our primary goal is your heart’s safety in any sporting or exercise endeavour you embark on. Our multidisciplinary team have put together cost—effective screenings to ensure your clearance for any level of sports or fitness you intend to undertake. The screenings are designed to identify pre-existing structural or electrical disorders.
